This painting is a part of the "This is my happy Place" series and depicts three people kayaking on Lake Koocanusa (Kook for short) in the Canadian Rockies. Every year this "lake" is created in the summer months when the American State to the south closes the gates on their dam to gather water for irrigation. What is created is a warm clean body of water that is a wonderful place to be in the summer. It stands as a testament of the friendship and cooperation of two sovereign nations WHEN you have peace and trust. The name Koo-Can-Usa is a combination of the names Koo for Kootenay ( the area of mountains surrounding), Can for Canada and usa for USA.
